Intro
I know it has been a long time since I've done these, but I have not forgotten about this series! So we are continuing with the 12 character archetypes with disney series right now. Now on the list, is the Seducer. Beautiful, mysterious, charismatic characters who have an allure to the main character. Of course, this doesn't have to be a woman, it can also be a male character.
So... Let's get into it. You know the drill: Try to think of some characters you'd consider to be in here, and let's see if we agree.
What Is The Seducer Archetype?
The Seducer archetype are mostly beautiful, and irresistible characters. They use their good looks and charisma to get what they want. This doesn't always mean they are evil. Heroes and side characters can have traits like this too. A hero could use their charm to get information from someone, or just get people to trust them very quickly.
Character Strength
- Beauty: They are very beautiful and irresistible, able to get what they want by simply flashing a smile.
- Charisma: They are very charismatic and know how to manipulate people. They easily have people wrapped around their fingers.
- Amorality: People are easily attracted to them.
Weaknesses:
- Lack of loyalty: They aren't loyal to anyone. They just do everything for themselves and drop others when they don't matter anymore.
- Lack or Morality: They don't have a lot of morality and just do the things that is good for them, even if it is a bad thing.
These are the traits that fit a Seducer character. Let's see how they could fit into the universe.
Disney Character Examples
Flynn Rider (Tangled)
Of course, Flynn is a hero, and he becomes a better man by the end, but he does fit into the Seducer archetype. He is very handsome (beautiful), and has a lot of charm / charisma. His iconic smolder usually makes women swoon, except apparently Rapunzel. He does have a lack of loyalty. Already in his first scene, we see him abandon allies and run away with the crown alone even though it was supposed to get money for all three of them. And the stabbington brothers know very well he has a lack of loyalty, because they tell him to give them the crown before they help him up the ledge.
Ursula (Little Mermaid)
Ursula is very charismatic and knows exactly what to say to get people to make deals with her. She is also very beautiful in her human form and people are easily attracted to her. I'm sure her shapeshifting ability gives her a lot of amorality.
Meg (Hercules)
Meg is definitely not a damsel in distress, working with the god of the underworld. She is beautiful instantly having Hercules hooked, and she is very charismatic. She was literally sent by Hades to get the monster attacking her to join the war against Zeus. So it's clear |Hades expected her to succeed and charm him. She also kind of seduced Hercules at their first date as she was trying to find out his weakness for Hades. You could say she has a bit of a lack of loyalty because at first she doesn't want to hurt Hercules, but the moment Hades tells her she will earn her freedom, she does it.
Mother Gothel
Let's be honest, Gothel is VERY beautiful. She is also charismatic. She managed to get the Stabington Brothers to work with her very quickly by only dangling the opportunity to take revenge on Flynn in front of them. Her lack of loyalty is of course also there. If you've watched the animated series, you'd know she had a daughter. She was running home with the baby she had just stolen from the castle, but then abandoned her own daughter just to save herself from being caught by the guards. She left her own daughter for her ability to stay young forever. And of course betraying the Stabington brothers after they had gotten rid of Flynn and were going to capture Rapunzel.
Conclusion
So there it is, the fifth edition of the 12 archetypes. Almost halfway there! Do you agree with my picks? Any other characters you think should be on this list? Let me know in the comments!

I'm surprised you left off Hans from Frozen- he literally seduced/manipulated Anna, came with the initial intentions of seducing Elsa, all for self-serving purposes and with the ultimate goal of killing one (and eventually as the story goes on) both of them to usurp their kingdom. Basically, he takes the Seducer archetype to it's most negative and dangerous extreme as a would-be Homme Fatale.
ReplyDeleteI completely forgot about him! are so right, he definitly fits this type.
